I’ve always wondered what it is about sports that attracts so much of the population of this world. Following sports teams can be classified as millions of people’s main hobbies/recreational activities. It’s mind boggling to think that such a simple thing, watching physical competition, could capture the minds of so many people. I began to think of it on a personal level, to try to figure out why exactly it lures so many people in, and i found the answer to be pretty simple.
Watching the Patriots, or the Red Sox, or the Celtics, or the Bruins, or absolutely any other sports that i watch on a daily basis is the only thing that can level me out. I try to control nearly every aspect of my life, and im sure that that’s the same in a lot of other’s lives as well. You can’t control sports. The team you’re rooting for either wins or loses, and then it’s over. When you have no control over a situation, you have no worries; you can’t fret because the situation isn’t in your hands. You just have to watch how things pan out, and how they do so is uncontrollable. That’s the amazing thing, because if things do happen how you want them to, you still get the same sense of joy as if you were a vital part of the positive outcome. And if things don’t happen how you want them to, you lose, and you’re upset for a little while, but i find that it is very easy to move on from because there’s ALWAYS next game, next series, next year. There is always something that you can look forward to with promise. There’s always something that you can move on to, and that’s why people love sports.
